Assistant Food Service Manager (FNS)
Iris House A Center for Women Living with HIV, Inc., a non-profit agency located in Harlem (NYC) that provides comprehensive services and advocacy for women, families, and communities infected and affected by HIV/AIDS, while simultaneously providing prevention and education services for our clients and at-risk communities.

Position Summary:
The Assistant Food Service Manager is responsible for the planning and implementation of food services provided by Iris House. This position requires an individual experienced in the daily operations of a kitchen and pantry with working knowledge of the issues involved in hunger and poverty. The responsibilities of this position include ordering foodstuffs to maximize quality and quantity of meals for clients within a specific food budget for hot and cold meals (50-70) prepared daily as well as for the preparation and distribution of monthly pantry bags to Iris House clients and weekly emergency pantry bags to the community. Responsibilities will include the preparation of reports and documentation for budgets and monthly and/or yearly reports. He/she will maintain the highest quality of food safety and sanitation to meet DOH standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Supervise and train kitchen staff (one full time cook and one part time kitchen assistant), volunteers and interns
Review distributors’ food lists and prices to secure the most nutritious and cost-effective food items.
Consult with the Director and Registered Dietitians to plan the content, quality and quantity of food to be provided in the lunch menu and pantry packages
Prepare and submit food, supplies and equipment orders for the review and approval of the Director of Nutrition; ensure kitchen equipment is operational.
Oversee delivery and receipt of food, supplies and equipment; in conjunction with cook, determine weekly food items needed and ensure their availability
Maintains accurate records of all foods and items donated to Iris House
Participate substantially in the preparation and management of operational budgets and monitor actual versus project revenue and expenses
Maintain computer database system to ensure client information is up-to-date and accurate; generate varied reports on a monthly and ad hoc basis. Fulfill all reporting requirements required, accurately and in a timely manner
Conduct data analysis for departmental program evaluations, quality assurance and continuous quality improvement as well as general reports to submit for grantors and contracts (Government, Foundations and Private) and for grant proposals
Maintain established relations with vendors and contractors including, but not limited to, United Way of NYC, Food Bank for NYC, Human Resources Association, City Harvest, Broadway Cares and Public Health Solutions
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree and food safety credentials with a minimum of 2 years related work experience including supervision of staff; strong proficiency in all MS office applications is required; knowledge of government funded contracts and electronic record keeping preferred. Excellent organizational and collaborative skills essential.
