POSITION: “YOU!” Near-Peer (Part-time)
Iris House, a nonprofit agency in West Harlem is seeking 2 part-time permanent “You!” Near-Peer for our Prevention Department. The incumbent will be primarily responsible for co-leading intervention and educational workshops as part of an evidenced-based intervention called SIHLE for Adolescent girls aged 14-18. She/He will focus on gender pride, maintaining social networks, enhancing awareness of STD transmission and HIV reinfection risk behaviors, healthy and unhealthy relationships, defining abusive relationships and its effect on women.
Position includes but not limited to co-facilitate behavioral intervention and educational workshops. Assist with preparatory activities for implementing the intervention including the creation of participant handbooks and printing program materials to be used in each session. Schedule and conduct intervention sessions and follow-up with participants to increase retention in the program. Collect and store participant data and workshop evaluations. Attend ongoing training on planning and implementing the intervention.
REQUIREMENTS:
Candidate must have completed High School. 1 – 2 years experience in Human Services with emphasis on HIV/AIDS. Candidate must possess strong communication and public speaking skills and be interested in facilitating groups. 1 or more years experience volunteering or working in Human Services with an emphasis on STD/STI and HIV/AIDS prevention is a plus.
Position will require evening and weekend work.
