Acupuncture is a 2,000 year old Chinese therapy that is now widely practiced throughout the United States. Acupuncture practitioners insert fine needles into the skin at precise points to help treat a wide range of ailments. According to traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture helps restore the flow of energy along invisible channels within the body. Chinese theory states that if the flow of energy is not restored throughout the body, illness or pain may result.
Acupuncture has been found to help decrease chronic pain among many individuals suffering from arthritis, muscle and bone injuries, fibromyalgia, carpel tunnel syndrome, and a variety of other medical conditions. Acupuncture has also been used to treat individuals living with HIV/AIDS to help decrease symptoms of neuropathy, fatigue, nausea and pain. It is also used to help strengthen the immune system. Acupuncture, when used in conjunction with other conventional forms of Western medicine, is a valuable form of treatment for people living with HIV/AIDS.
