Massage Therapy is an alternative form of treatment that may produce positive results for people living with HIV/AIDS when used in conjunction with conventional forms of treatment. Massage therapists manipulate the soft tissues of the body, including muscles, skin, ligaments and tendons, to stimulate blood flow, to relieve tension and pain, and to reduce inflammation within the body.
Massage Therapy helps relieve stress and reduce tension within the body, improves breathing, circulation, and immunity, and promotes overall well-being. Massage Therapy has been found to improve the body's defense system against illness. Some studies have shown that massage enhances the immune system of people living with HIV/AIDS by increasing the number of natural killer cells that help the body defend itself against viral infection.
