Iris House provides many support groups for clients to allow them a forum for which to learn and discuss issues related to living with HIV/AIDS. The group descriptions along with the days and times are listed below.

 

Sister to Sister & Women Over 50

These groups are designed to support women and their families in dealing with HIV/AIDS and the issues that arise throughout one's life with the disease. The goal is to improve their internal familial relationships through discussion of many different topics including but not limited to: education, disclosure, parenting, treatment and support. The group allows the members to share their experiences in a safe caring environment.

Sister to Sister meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:30 to 1:30.
Women Over 50 meets Wednesdays from 12:30 to1:30.
Both groups meet at the Main Office (2348 Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Blvd)

Substance Abuse Group

The main objective of this group is to provide a place where clients can express their feelings, discuss addiction, relapse prevention and behavior change. The members of the group maintain respect for one another and confidentiality is protected. This co-ed Self Awareness Group takes place on Mondays from 1:30 pm to 3:30pm. The criteria for participants include a history of AOD (Alcohol and Other Drugs) and being a resident of Scatter Site Housing Program.

Prevention Las Divas Support Group

"Las Divas" support group is designed to reach HIV positive women ages 18 to 65. The group offers women a forum to discuss the many issues of living with HIV/AIDS. It is also meant to impart the latest information regarding HIV education and harm reduction theories. The group meets every Monday from 12pm to 2pm at the Iris House East Harlem location (2271 2nd Avenue). Lunch and metrocards are provided.

Men's Group

The Men's Group is a safe environment to promote the discussion and understanding of any issues that may be impacting lives of men living with HIV/AIDS.

Tuesdays from 11 to 12

Women's Empowerment Group

Scheduled to begin in the Fall - The group will be a safe environment to foster self-empowerment in areas including but not limited to self care re: physical and mental health as well as family.
